MCG Youth's Wednesday ceramics class is Botanic Panic, taugh by Matt Zorn. In this course, students make traditional Japanese kusamono planters for bonsai displays using hand building and wheel-throwing techniques.

This course is in partnership with Phipps Conservatory, where students will visit in the coming weeks to hand-select the bonsai plants that will be paired with their creations.

"What I like about this collaboration with Phipps Conservatory is that our students are gonna actually meet different bonzai trees that have been there for years and years," says Zorn, "And they'll make a pot that will be partnered with that bonsai. So it'll be a big bonsai and then their little pot of like wild flowers or moss or grass. I see it as an analogy there for the mentor-mentee program we have here."

Stay tuned for these plant pairings!
